The Susquehanna River Birding and Wildlife Trail guide was developed by Audubon Pennsylvania in partnership with a diverse committee representing regional and state-wide communities. The guide, modeled after the successful "Great Texas Bird Trail," was developed in three phases. The first phase identified over 300 potential locations where wildlife or bird watching activities could be carried out. The second phase was an on-ground assessment of each site. Each location was visited and assessed using a list of criteria including safe access and parking, diversity of wildlife, and location within the Susquehanna River watershed. Public forums were held to allow the community the opportunity to comment on the project, and hear results of the site assessments. The third phase was the development of the guide book and accompanying website.
This project was made possible by Susquehanna River Birding and Wildlife Trail Funders, the Trail Advisory Committee, Audubon Pennsylvania staff, and numerous volunteers. Thank you all!
